Radio anchor Norman Goldman criticized what he described as the GOP’s effort to block progress on the economy. “They want to blame Obama for the bad economy and therefore regain the presidency…. The word of today is ‘treason.’ I accuse the Republican party of treason…. Article 3, Section 3 of the United States Constitution…. ‘Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.’ So giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
Now I don’t know if you can really quite shoehorn what the Republicans have done to destroy the government over the last two years with treason, the way it’s defined in Article 3, Section 3 of the Constitution. But certainly in a broader sense of betraying your country, they are guilty of treason. That is my nomination for word of the day today…. They got control of the House of Representatives. They used the filibuster mercilessly in the U.S. Senate… And they have just taken a monkey wrench and jammed it right into the gears of government in order to destroy the economic recovery and therefore harm America. Now that is treason in my perspective, I’ve got to tell ya.'”
Treason? Not quite. Not giving aid and comfort to the enemy. False and disrespectful.
