The host of The Last Word, Lawrence O’Donnell, couldn’t resist harkening back to Newt Gingrich’s marriage problems on the eve of his dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
He played video late last night of Gingrich speaking on different dates, sometimes about his family. “I am a grandfather. I have two wonderful grandchildren. I have two wonderful daughters. “O’Donnell talks over Gingrich, repeating his words, “I have two wonderful daughters and two great sons-in-law. Callista and I have a great marriage.”
The broadcaster continues on his own, “Even though it started as an extra-marital affair. In fact, probably because it started as an extra-marital affair.”
It is disrespectful to talk over someone. Bringing up the infidelity with Callista while married to his second wife was inappropriate. It bares no relationship to the strength Gingrich says is now in his marriage with her.
