Obama doesn’t respect Republican debate

They seem to argue about everything these days in Washington. Now the issue is Pres. Obama requesting a joint session of Congress to deliver his speech on job creation.

The problem is that he wants to do it on the same date and at the same time as the upcoming Republican debate next Wednesday. Accounts differ on the sequence of requests and responses.

The Republicans say the White House leaked the date and time before privately asking congressional leadership, which is customary. Another account says the GOP was consulted before the announcement but that means Speaker John Boehner or Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would have had to approve the date in question but they say they did not.

If the two leaders had approved the date, both houses would have had to give final approval.

We think it was mistake for the administration to request the same date and time as the Republican debate. It smacks of a purely political move to upstage the GOP.

The two sides were meeting tonight as this post is published and we believe the speech will not be at the same time as the debate.
